Working from [A Modern] Home
This article toured the home of Hawaii-based design / build architect Karl Mench, who's doing really (ahem ...) groundbreaking work in the Aloha State. His contemporary style is rare among the '60s and '70s residences and plantation-style homes most familiar to Hawaii homeowners. It was a pleasure to get to know his young and growing family and partner with interior design firm Pacific Home for the staging of this property.
Farm Life Magazine
Small Hay, Big Needs
This article featured two hard-working weekend warrior farmers in Missouri. One, a post office worker and the other, a firefighter, took to farming small plots of hay at night and on weekends — with the respective goals of feeding a beautiful group of trainer horses and supporting a small cow / calf operation. I learned so much from these two, including what that tassle thingy is that horse trainers always wave around. Fun times on the farm, indeed.

Neo Bungalow
Those navy and green chairs. That damask wallpaper. This article featured interior designer Isla Schmidt and her incredible, eclectic tropical-meets-traditional design sense. The home in this piece is located in Nuuanu, a rainforest-laden residential district on the island of Oahu known for its bungalows. The table and chairs were later featured in Design Sponge.
Kroger
My Magazine
So, Kroger called and said, "Hey, we're throwing a Cinco De Mayo party and were wondering if you could develop some recipes for us. Maybe throw in a couple of themed party ideas." Just kidding, that's not quite how it went down. But that is basically what I did. This piece featured several original quick-prep ideas and some decorating tips for that all-important festival day on the 5th of May.
